As I picnic with my granddaughter, I still remember the energy on campus that April day in 1970—the very first Earth Day. The world felt like it was waking up to the importance of protecting our planet. Students gathered together, holding handmade signs, planting trees, and sharing hopes for a cleaner, greener future.
