Love, Legacy, and Long Weekends: A Grandma's February
February always tugs at my heart a little differently these days. Valentine’s Day and President’s Day sit side by side on the calendar—one all about love, the other about history and leaders we rarely meet—and somewhere in between is where my grandma heart lives, even from a distance.

Valentine’s Day used to mean little handmade cards, frosting on fingers, and giggles over too many sprinkles. Now, it looks quieter: a photo I keep on my phone, a memory that makes me smile, a silent prayer whispered for a granddaughter I haven’t seen in three years. Love hasn’t gone anywhere; it’s just learned to stretch across miles and empty spaces.
President’s Day makes me think about legacy—the mark we leave, even when we’re not physically present. I may not be there for everyday moments, but I can still choose the kind of grandmother I am in my heart: one who keeps hoping, keeps cheering, and keeps a place ready for when “someday” comes. Leadership, for me, looks like staying soft instead of bitter, choosing hope over giving up, and believing that love still matters, even when it can’t always be seen.

This February, I’m holding both holidays gently. I’m loving from afar with prayers, good memories, and a heart that refuses to stop caring. And I’m leading my own life with quiet courage—taking care of my health, working on my goals, and leaving a trail of stories, photos, and words that will be there if and when she reaches for them.
If you’re loving someone you rarely get to see, you’re not alone. Our hearts can still hold a place for them, and that, too, is a kind of love and legacy.
